Liquid Chromatography-tandem Mass Spectrometry with Micromass Quattro LC (a quadrupole instrument) with ESI (electrospray ionization) or APCI (Atmospheric Pressure Chemical Ionization). LC-MS/MS is the ’method-of-choice’ for mass spectrometry analysis of most low molecular weight compounds. In combination with the same or a similar compound labeled with a stable isotope (e.g. deuterium, C13, N15) as internal standard this technique permits identification and quantification of compounds with very high specificity and sensitivity.
