HPLC with an electrochemical detector (ECD). This detector is based on an oxidation-reduction reaction and generates an electric current that is proportional to the concentration of a compound with redox potential. The detector has often a very high sensitivity and is suitable for compounds such as catecholamines and their metabolites, serotonin and metabolites, levodopa, carbidopa and metabolites, vitamins (e.g. vitamin D and E) and a large number of other compounds (cf. www.esainc.com).
