The CAD (charged aerosol detector) is a novel general method for detection of compounds based on their mass and is used especially for non-volatile compounds that are not detected by UV, EC or FD. Examples of such compounds are lipids (e.g. glycerides, phospholipids) and sugars (mono-, di- and polysaccharides).
